Reserves Beat Hyde

Hyde United reserves came to Broadhurst Park and left well beaten as Connor Martin got lucky, lucky, lucky, with a hat-trick in a 3-0 win, though in truth it was a well deserved result for a performance in which the reds always looked in control .

FC United could have gone ahead in the third minute when Whiting in the Hyde goal saved first from Chris Hill and then from Martin’s follow up. Although they dominated possession it wasn’t until midway through the half that Whiting was tested again as a Dean Hope effort was saved and it wasn’t until the half hour mark that Hyde managed a shot.

Five minutes later the home side finally took the lead, Hope turned provider allowing Martin past the keeper to shoot home. Hyde should have equalised five minutes after the goal, with their best move as Barratt found Pemberton in space facing Jupp. His effort went past the reds keeper but also past the post. From that the reds were quickly upfield as a flowing move from Chris Lynch via Charlie Doyle saw Martin Chipping the keeper but also drifting wide.

The reds brought on Paulo Mendes for Robson Buckley at half time and were equally dominant in the second half, although Hyde substitute Boateng brought a fine save from Jupp on 56 minutes, it was not long before the game was put out of their reach. After Sam Summerbee shot against the post and Martin’s follow up was cleared off the line it was two goals in as many minutes for Martin. On 60 minutes he pressured Whiting into making a mess of clearing a back pass and pounced to shoot into a vacant net. Two minutes later Doyle found Summerbee wide on the right with a run behind the Hyde back line, his sharp cross being forced home by Martin for his third.

With the game won there were three more changes as Darius Palma, Keenan Tuck and Nathan Chorlton came on for Josh Smethurst, Chris Lynch and Sam Summerbee. The only change to the flow of the game was that no more goals were scored. That was down to the efforts of Whiting as Hope had a header saved, Tuck had two good chances whilst Mendes and Martin could also have scored.
