Match Report
FC United slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Marine at Gigg Lane on Tuesday night with a Nick Rogan goal inside the last ten minutes separating the two teams.

It was Marine who was quickest out of the traps as a ball played forward was cleared by the FC defence only ball to be dispatched back towards the goal but happily for the Reds, wide.

Adam Dawson, starting on the right wing, dribbled his way into box and shot from a tight angle but the ball flew over the bar. On 19 minutes, Lee Neville beat the offside trap and fired in a dangerous cross that Ryan McMahon plucked from the head of Mike Norton.

Three minutes later, the referee had a decision to make when a Jerome Wright cross seemed to hit a Marine defender on the hand but the penalty appeals were waved away.

Norton had anther chance shortly after when a cross from the left fell to him in the six yard box but the ball got trapped under his feet and the chance went.

On the half hour mark, Marine had two good chances to take the lead when a cross in was blocked, the ball falling to Jonathan Goulding in the 6 yard box, but he couldn’t make a clean contact and the ball was cleared.

Moments after, Matty Devine was played in on the left hand side of the box but he saw his shot go narrowly wide of the far post.

Straight from the start of the second half, the official had another penalty decision to make as Devine ran clear on goal. As he entered the box he thought he was checked by Adam Jones, but the referee was having none of it.

On 50 minutes, Matthew Wolfenden turned well and fired a shot that was well saved by McMahon. Just after the hour mark a cross into the FC box was met by the head of left back Paul Lundon, but he put the header wide of the goal.

On 79 minutes, the best chance of the night for FC fell to Norton who was played clear by a superb ball from midfield. He tried to bring it under control for the expected shot on goal but sadly he lost his footing and the chance went.

The killer blow came for the home side on 82 minutes when an innocuous free kick was played into the FC box. Jones played at the ball and to his horror it found its way into the FC box where Nick Rogan was lurking to tap into the corner of the net.

There was one final chance for FC as Dave Birch fired just over from the edge of the box, but the defeat was cruel on The Reds who had managed to put behind them the Rushall game with a much more controlled performance.
