Match Report
ASHTON TOWN AFC YOUTH 2 FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 4

FC United of Manchester Youth progressed to the next round of the F.A. Youth Cup with this hard fought 4-2 away win in the First Qualifying Round against Ashton Town AFC Youth at Edge Green Street, Ashton-in-Makerfield on Thursday evening.

It had all looked so easy as the Young Reds raced into an early two goal lead in the opening stages.

On just 5 minutes, KAMAHL FULLER was in exactly the right place to smash home Keenan Tuck’s cross from the right.

And only two minutes later, CAMERON HORNER made it 2-0 when he slotted home from a Jack Ward through ball.

On 27 minutes, FC United Youth went three goals up when KEENAN TUCK headed home from a Jack Ward cross from the left.

And it could have been four shortly before the break had not Cameron Horner been denied what looked to be a fairly clear cut penalty.

Ashton Town AFC Youth used the half time interval to re-group to good effect and on 57 minutes, they pulled one back when the unmarked CHARLIE COONEY headed home from a corner.

And on 66 minutes, the home side further reduced the arrears when BEN HAMLET sent ’keeper Sulaiman Sajjad the wrong way from the 12 yard spot after Benn Veitch has been adjudged to have tripped his opponent just inside the penalty area.

At 2-3, another goal for the home side might well have taken the tie into extra time, but after FC United’s Steve Affleck had shot narrowly wide on 74 minutes, SAM BAIRD settled any nerves when he headed home from a Cameron Horner cross from the right in the 81st minute to make sure of the final result.

FC United of Manchester Youth now await the draw for the Second Qualifying Round which will be made at 1 p.m. today.
