Match Report
FC United Reserves brought their season to a close with a 1-1 draw at Hyde. They took the lead with a John Pritchard free kick in the first half but were pulled back in the second.

Hyde centre forward Pete Boyle came close in the first minute but it was FC United who gradually took control and dominated the half. Connor Martin, playing up front was a constant threat, chasing balls played into space for him. He was unlucky in the 9th minute when one such ball gave him the chance to run past Josh Broadbent in the home goal and shoot. Defensive cover was available to turn the ball out for a corner.

Other chances followed, Frank van Gils had the ball in the net on 20 minutes but was judged to have been offside and Martin had another two good chances before being fouled on another run on 36 minutes. Pritchard took the free kick and drilled it past Broadbent into the far corner.

Half time came and 1-0 seemed a small reward for the dominance and patient build up play. However Hyde were to come out a more competitive side in the second half. Charlie Doyle had an effort saved in the opening moments before on 50 minutes, a Hyde break from right wing to left was played back into the box and a near post flick went just the right side for FC.

The Hyde equaliser came midway through the second half, a throw from the right saw Pete Boyle cut inside and fire in to the far corner. Both sides pressed for a winner but in truth neither goalkeeper was truly tested. Perhaps the best effort coming in on FC United attack ten minutes from time when shots from Dean Hope and Cameron Thorpe were repelled.

The game was a microcosm of their season, in which attractive football didn’t quite get its just reward. Even so, given that the three substitutes used are all still at school, there is much to look forward to next season.
