What's the ground like?

Ironically named Victory Park, FC United have found it to be an easy hunting ground for three points. With a good win rate and an ever-increasing average attendance creating a bit of atmosphere; the short trip up to Chorley is always a good one.

The Magpies purchased the land for £868 in 1919, before opening for business the following year and they have played at Victory Park ever since. In 1945, the Main Stand was destroyed by a fire and rebuilt in 1947, with capacity for 900 seated spectators. The Main stand also houses the player dressing rooms, dugouts and media facilities.

The ground holds 4,100 divided up between the three main spectator areas; the seated Main Stand, the Duke Street End, and the Pilling Lane End. Behind one of the goals is The Duke Street End which has uncovered terracing at the front, leading up to some covered standing further back.

Opposite is the Pilling Lane End which is a large covered terrace behind the goal.

Facilities include toilets, a social bar and the snack hut called The Magpies Nest, offering a decent range of hot food and drinks.

Getting to the ground by public transport

Railway and Bus Station (approx 0.5 miles).

Both are located near the town centre on the A6 opposite one another. On leaving either, follow signs for Bolton along A6, passing between Morrison’s and the Ford garage.

You will then arrive at the final round-a-bout in front of the old Plaza cinema. Head down the third exit and then immediate first left into Duke Street. Then take the second left into Ashby Street. Ground is on the right.

Getting to the ground by car

From M6, junction 27 (Standish):

Leave motorway, and head toward Wrightington. Take first turning right (next to garage) into Mossy Lee Road. Turn right into Boundary Lane (going over motorway bridge). Carry on along here (road changes to Pepper Lane) to end and turn right onto Preston Road (A49) and head toward Coppull. Follow signs for Chorley onto Spendmore Lane at first round-a-bout. Drive along here following signs for Chorley. Once in Chorley, Spendmore Lane becomes Moor Road and then Pall Mall following traffic lights. Just after the Plough Inn, turn right into Duke Street, then third right (after School) into Ashby Street. Ground is on the right.

From M61, junction 8 (Botany Bay):

Leave motorway and follow signs toward Chorley town centre along A6. At the two round-a-bouts by B&Q, head across the first then the right exit at the immediate next. Go straight across the next 6 (six) round-a-bouts until you pass between Morrison’s and the Ford garage. You will then arrive at the final round-a-bout in front of the old Plaza cinema. Take the third exit, then immediate first left into Duke Street. Then take the second left into Ashby Street. Ground is on the right.
